Manage and provide leadership across multiple ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) programs within a region to include budget management, clinical quality, business growth and retention, hiring, mentoring, and measuring performance and competencies to achieve targeted financial outcomes and compliance with applicable requirements. Collaborate with leadership in the development and implementation of ECMO training standards, protocols and polices. Travel on a regular basis within the assigned region to support growth, training and new account implementation.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Assist in the development of training standards, protocols and polices for all ECMO Specialists nationally.
  • Participate in identifying learning needs and implementation of appropriate learning techniques when teaching the educational ECMO program to clinicians ensuring clinical competency nationally.
  • Travel to other accounts/hospitals within an assigned region to implement training and setup new accounts.
  • Manage the budgeting for all programs within the region to include compiling financial, inventory, labor, travel/other expenses, and asset management.
  • Review and approve capital equipment and disposable inventory orders.
  • Compile and review productivity reports and direct operational, scheduling and/or staffing processes to meet or exceed targeted results accordingly. 
  • Collaborate with operations leadership in developing operational ECMO initiatives and strategies to maximize revenue, profitability, and control of expenditures.
  • Oversee processes to ensure that ECMO associates within the region remain competent and compliant (ie. Wetlabs, simulation training).
  • Serve as a leading resource for patient care delivery related to population in collaboration with Perfusion service line leadership, physicians, medical department, surgeons, perfusion, ECMO specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Build relationships with physicians and hospital administrators to meet contractual requirements, retain the account and maintain client satisfaction. 
  • Ensure all teams within the region adherences to SpecialtyCare’s clinical quality standards and protocols and all Joint Commission requirements, and other applicable regulatory requirements, consistently.
  • Manage employment activities of direct clinical reports to include hiring; performance appraisals, time reporting, development and employee relations.
  • Maintain regular effective communication with physicians, hospital staff, leadership and/or others as directed.
  • Present data to hospital committees and/or surgeons as assigned.
  • Perform ECMO clinical coverage as needed.
  • Identify potential emergencies, complications and/or improvement opportunities and take swift action appropriately.
  • Maintain ECMO certification and knowledge by participating in continuing ECMO education and attending regular education seminars and just-in-time training.
  • 80% direct patient care clinical responsibility
  • Perform additional types of cases of which is allowable under the associate’s current certification, as needed.

Education:

 

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (RN), Perfusion, or Respiratory Therapy (RT) from an accredited program.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Perfusion or Respiratory Therapy, preferred.
  • Active RN, RRT or CCP certification and license to practice in the applicable state(s).   
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • CES-A certification to be obtained within twenty-four (24) months of employment.

 

Experience:

 

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience
  • Two (2) years recent experience managing ECMO in a busy critical care facility.  
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience, acceptable.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to effectively teach others ensuring end users fully understand the ECMO functionality and can perform all ECMO job related responsibilities.
  • Proven track record in managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to drive excellent performance results and use metrics effectively.
  • Ability to relate and understand client needs from perspective of hospital’s function departments as well as key stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead others, business processes and building effective teams
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees. 
  • Ability to provide feedback and coaching of others.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changes in environment and/or procedures.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues that may include several variables and present resolution opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of ECMO processes and equipment. 
  • Strong service-oriented approach in interactions with all customers, both external and internal.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak clearly, write, read and understand English.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions, manuals, and procedures furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with hospital staff members and physicians.   
  • Ability to resolve with problems involving several variables in routine and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to use a computer for multiple purposes.
