Position:                                          Surgical Neurophysiologist

 

Job Duties:

 

1.       Provide intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) care for patients during surgical procedures and communicate monitoring information to the surgeon and the surgical team throughout the case.

2.       Obtain a detailed medical history of the patient and consult with the supervising physician and/or surgeon regarding patient structures at risk and modalities to be monitored during the operative procedure.

3.       Collect all patient data, medical history and paperwork, and store it in company IONM workflow software.

4.       Displays, prints, and labels waveforms to hard copy for archiving interpretation marking, measuring and calculating information such as latencies, amplitudes and conduction times following established guidelines and protocols.

5.       Prepare accurate and timely IONM logs, files, and work/technical sheets, including a technical description of the IONM modalities, with emphasis on clinical observations in order to assist with preparation of the physician’s final report.

6.       Troubleshoot equipment issues with the assistance of the remote monitoring physician and/or IT department to assure accurate data collection.

7.       Assist with training of students and newly hired employees as needed.

8.       TRAVEL: Unanticipated travel to sister facilities for case coverage on a as needed basis within a commutable distance inside the MSA of Palm Beach County, Florida. Travel is not to exceed 6% per year.

 Job Requirements: 

Education Requirements:

·       Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Physiology with a concentration in Neurophysiology, or closely related. Employer will accept foreign equivalent degree if in the same field.

 

Experience Requirements:

·       24 months experience in job offered, Diagnostic Neurophysiology Technologist, Neurophysiology Technologist, or closely related.

 

Special skills requirements:

 

1.       Review of patient medical records, x-rays and surgical plans, conferred with MD/Fellow regarding structures at risk and expected complications. Obtained agreement on neurophysiological data to be recorded.

2.       Consultation with anesthesia team on the anesthetic protocol required for optimum recording of the patients’ neurophysiological signals. Ensured anesthetic protocol was followed and distinguished effects of anesthetic agents on neurophysiological data.

3.       Calibrate and evaluate Cadwell equipment, makes adjustments for the optimization of recorded physiological data. Appropriate modification of stimulation parameters and/or recording paradigms to ensure salient data acquisition.

4.       Records, troubleshoots, identifies and interprets neurophysiological signals and reports to the surgical team with recommendation for specific intervention as needed.

5.       Recognizes normal patterns, normal variants, and abnormal patterns as well as understands the medical and pharmacological/anesthetic conditions that influence the recording of IOM modalities.

6.       Perform IONM for extradural spine procedures, including anterior and posterior cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral surgeries, deformity correction; intra- and extramedullary/cauda equina tumor resections, tethered cord release, and intracranial procedures with and without mapping.

7.       Must have a certification for Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).

Work Schedule:                             40 hours/week
