In this role you will conduct electroneurodiagnostic (END) tests such as electroencephalograms, evoked potentials, polysomnograms, or electronystagmograms. You may also perform nerve conduction studies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collect patients’ medical information needed to customize tests.
  • Conduct tests or studies such as electroencephalography (EEG), polysomnography (PSG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), and intraoperative monitoring (IOM).
  • Explain testing procedures to patients, answers patients’ questions, and reassures patients.
  • Indicate artifacts or interferences derived from sources outside of the brain such as poor electrode contacts or patient movement on electroneurodiagnostic recordings.
  • Monitor patients during tests or surgeries using electroencephalographs (EEG), evoked potential (EP) instruments, or video recording equipment.
  • Conduct tests to determine cerebral death, the absence of brain activity, or the probability of recovery from a coma.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and/or repair equipment and correct equipment malfunctions.
  • Measure visual, auditory, or somatosensory evoked potentials (EPs) to determine responses to stimuli.
  • Summarize technical data to assist physicians to diagnose brain, sleep, or nervous system disorders.
  • Sets up, program, and record montages or electrical combinations when testing peripheral nerve, spinal cord, subcortical, or cortical responses.
  • Maintain supplies, monitor inventory stock, and order supplies as needed to ensure continued readiness.
  • Establish and prepare medical record documentation in accordance with hospital and SpecialtyCare policy.
  • Keep equipment clean and in proper working order. 
  • Communicate and document actual or potential equipment problems to all relevant members of the clinical team.
  • Perform periodic trending analysis and/or data review per facility policy and procedures.
  • Perform initial and follow-up evoked potential tests on an as-needed basis.
  • Transfer data between local and network drives for data review and permanent storage when necessary.
  • Provide physicians, nurses and other clinical staff members with periodic updates and data summaries regarding EMG/NC and patient’s clinical condition per facility policy and procedures.
  • Report critical test results to the neuro critical care physician, nursing staff, and/or supervisor and documents this communication according to facility and SpecialtyCare policy and procedures.
  • Report any skin breakdown, according to facility policy and procedure.
  • Perform additional test modalities, including results of the initial and serial tests.
  • Compile monitoring (shift) reports summarizing number of events, types of events, precautions necessary, additional procedures ordered and any other relevant information which is available for review by staff caring for the patient.
  • Read, understand, and implement all policies and procedure guidelines.
  • Inform appropriate individuals of inventory level, equipment condition, and general needs.

Basic Qualifications

Education:

·         Associate’s Degree, required.

·         Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.

·         Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT), preferred.

 

Experience:

·         2+ years’ of related experience, preferred.

·         Ability to complete a NCS in 30-60 minutes.
